Gold Standards Framework

What is the Gold Standards Framework?

‘Aiming to achieve the best quality of life for residents particularly towards the end of life’

What is the Gold Standard Framework? Along with many care homes across the country, this home is working with residents, families and colleagues to develop improvements in the quality and organization of care for people approaching the end of their lives. As part of this process, this home has joined the National Gold Standards Framework in Care Homes Programme, supported by local facilitators, the National GSF team and other health care professionals.

There is an independent quality assurance process which recognises those homes that have undertaken the GSF training programme and who demonstrate full integration of the work into their home.

It’s a framework that enables a Gold Standard of Care for all people nearing the end of life. It helps us help provide the highest standard of care possible for not only our resident but also for their families as they face the last stage of their lives. We believe our residents deserve the best care that we can provide and this means a high quality, reliable and consistent standard –helping them to live well and die in the place and manner of their choosing. For many this means avoiding hospital admission in the final stages of their life, enabling them to die with dignity in the home, if that is their wish.

Part of the process involves gathering information as early as possible- whilst the resident is able to make a contribution. This is known as Advance Care Planning and this allows us to document the finer detail of what is important to an individual – such as religious and spiritual needs – getting in touch with an old friend, a favourite perfume, a bird feeder on a window or classical music and experiences that can make a difference in the final weeks and days of life.

Nazareth Lodge Residential Care Home, dedicated to providing the best possible care for all of its residents right up until the end of their lives, has been recognised with a major national award – for the second time.

To be accredited, homes have to achieve 20 quality standards, ranging from leadership and support to dignity and respect as well as submit a portfolio of evidence.

GSF Awards are presented to homes that demonstrate real improvement in the quality of care they provide. Many halve the number of their residents dying in hospital as well as halving crisis hospital admissions, leading to greater satisfaction for families, residents and staff and significant cost savings for the NHS. Everyone in the home, ranging from care assistants to the activities coordinator and cook, is involved in regular reviews with the residents.

Testimonials

My mother is extremely happy here, she has been resident for 9 months. She has very mild dementia and receives excellent care. The food is first class and she enjoys whatever activity is provided. The staff are always inclusive and welcoming at any time of day.

Testimonials

Mum moved into Nazareth Lodge on 1st March 2022. Both she and I were so relieved to find such wonderfully caring staff there. In fact, we have been exceedingly impressed by the friendly, caring and professional attitude, which extends throughout the whole team of personnel working there, towards the residents and their relatives as well as amongst each other.
Mum is now 102 years old and needs a high level of care, and she has been consistently afforded respect and kindness along with an understanding of increasing the care as her condition progresses, physically and mentally. She very quickly “adopted “ the staff as her own family, and I am so grateful to them all for the unconditional love and care they have shown my mother and also to me.

A thank you would in no way suffice for the reassurance and peace that everyone helped to give to me and others during the eight months that RW was with you.

Nazareth Lodge encourages a wide range of activities and outings - although my mother seemed to spend most of her time getting her hair done and having massages!

Testimonials

My husband is already a resident and I have spent two weeks in respite care. I have been wonderfully cared for and feel I have recovered very quickly. I cannot fault the staff, who are so caring and gentle and always cheerful. The food is lovely, well cooked and presented. There are plenty of activities organised and outings arranged for mobile residents. This is an excellent care home and its awards are well deserved.

As a retired District Nurse of some years experience I was encouraged to discover such a well run home as Nazareth Lodge when we moved to the area some years ago.

Testimonials

I have spoken with my brother and sister and it goes almost without saying that we are extremely grateful to all the staff at Nazareth Lodge for the way in which they looked after our mother. We are not surprised by the award of an outstanding classification and no doubt a lot was due to the standard of care provided by the staff.

Nazareth Lodge offers a home-from-home family atmosphere with the greatest of care and consideration to its residents.
The home is always welcoming and warm, with a dedicated team who treats everyone as their dearest relative.

Testimonials

Mum needed care at very short notice, due to a recent illness that had set her on a downward spiral. After reading the amazing reviews we spoke to the Administrator. She was so helpful, warm and welcoming that we didn't hesitate to choose Nazareth Lodge for mum. The home does not have any of the typical odours, sometimes associated with care homes, it is spotless, the food is fresh, homemade and has certainly enticed mum into eating again. The staff are so caring, respectful and welcoming to residents and family. Mum is enjoying all the interaction and the trips out. It is so nice to see her bright and engaged again after such a short period of time. A weekly newsletter is sent to the relatives, which is so thoughtful, it makes us feel part of the home. We truly are blessed to have found the best care home in Dorset for our mum. Thank you Nazareth Lodge.
