Activities
We have a strong emphasis on activities and keeping our residents busy and entertained. We have a minibus that enables us to go out on trips that the residents choose. In the warmer months we tend to go on a trip every tuesday and thursday, in the colder months we go out every tuesday. We also have big events every year such as the longleat trip and the vintage tea party. There is a selection of board games as well as weekly exercise, stretching and yoga sessions. The home has wi-fi throughout and we have an ipad which facila Facetime contact for our residents with far flung friends and relatives.
We have over the years forged strong links with the local community and regularly host an Ecumenical service to which local parishioners are invited and there is a fortnightly communion service held in the home and the residents help to arrange the church flowers occasionally. Flowers feature strongly in every day life at Nazareth Lodge and are grown in the garden for the home. We offer flower arranging activities for the residents that love gardening but are not able to do so anymore. They can then keep those flowers in their room or choose a place round the home to put them.
For the residents that are more physically able, we offer gardening in our beautiful garden. We have a good size flower bed and flower pots located all around the garden for the residents to pot their flowers of choice.
Regular mini bus outings take our residents out on various trips such as pub lunches, cream teas or just an afternoon out exploring Dorset.
The ice cream van visits regularly in the Summer and the residents are treated to their choice of ice cream.
Our Activities Coordinator makes sure that all our residents are given the choice to participate in group activities or one-to-one sessions.
It is down to each residents individual choice as to whether they participate in the activities offered. If they prefer not to partake, our activities co-ordinators offer one to one sessions every week to all of the residents and they often learn from the residents too – for example, they have been taught how to play chess by one resident! This service ensures that those residents who prefer their own company are not isolated and have some dedicated time to help them maybe write a letter, play cards or just have a chat over a cup of tea.
Our local community building, The Exchange, offers clubs for residents to attend such as the bowling club and floral group. It also has a cinema and theatre.
Our community
Nazareth Lodge has a longstanding history of supporting worthy causes both at home and abroad.
Within Sturminster Newton, we have sponsored everything from the Dorset Air Ambulance to the local Majorette group. As part of this ongoing relationship, we have strong links with the local schools and our residents benefit from concerts and activities both in the home and in the community.
Nazareth Lodge has committed to part sponsor the town’s Christmas Lights for three years from 2018, and as part of our Christmas celebrations, our residents are able to visit the town and see the lights whilst partaking in some retail therapy.
